Second-sourceable, common series of FETs (like BCxxx or 2Nxxxx for BJTs)?
If I want a BJT in a design, I'll try to use one of the BCxxx series (e.g. BC547) or 2Nxxxx series (e.g. 2N2222) or their surface mount equivalents because they're available from multiple sources, dirt cheap and can be purchased practically anywhere.
Are there similar series of FETs (p- and n-channel) that "everyone uses", are available from multiple sources and dirt cheap? Are these series deficient when compared to "modern" devices?
